There’s a million different reasons out there to do anything. Two people of identical means and position can make a decision for vastly different decisions, and yet still arrive at the same outcome. Take for example, both of them buying a BMW. One of them wanted a superior driving experience, and the other just loved the particular shade of green that the car came in.

Is either of them right? Or wrong? Absolutely not if you ask me. What’s important is that they both used their means to purchase what they wanted. This is exactly how I see watch collecting. Whether you buy a watch for its value, brand, movement, cultural significance, or any number of other reasons, I personally want to hear the story behind it. What does it mean to you? How did it feel when you first put it on? What makes you reach for it instead of a different watch in your collection?

I once heard someone describe art as being anything that captures a time, a place and an emotion. This is how I personally view watches. They are beautiful, functional and marvels of engineering. We use them to count moments in time, so why not use them to capture those same moments, to immortalize those stories and share them with those we meet?

Watches of all makes, models, price and type can fulfill this. Whether it’s a 10 or a 10,000 dollar watch, it can be the vessel that carries a moment, a feeling and a story; and I look forward to hearing them all.
